Drake was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents divorced when he was five years old, and he was raised by his mother in Toronto’s Forest Hill neighborhood. His father, Dennis Graham, was a drummer for rock and roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis.

Drake’s interest in music began at a young age, and he started acting in school plays and performing in local talent shows. He also attended acting classes and landed a role on the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001.

He continued to act on the show until 2009, but his true passion was music. In 2006, Drake released his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, which gained some attention in the underground hip hop scene.

He then released his second mixtape Comeback Season in 2007, which caught the attention of rapper Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne signed Drake to his record label, Young Money Entertainment, in 2009.

Drake was appointed as the Toronto Raptors’ “global ambassador” in 2013, becoming a member of the NBA franchise’s executive committee. After Apple Music was introduced, Drake was announced as the face of the platform in 2015.

Additionally, he signed an exclusive agreement with the service, reportedly worth $19 million. As a result, all of Drake’s future solo releases were made available on Apple Music before being released on other streaming platforms and music stores.

Due to his notable financial success, he was included in The Forbes Five: Hip-Hop’s Wealthiest Artists, ranking number five behind Birdman, Dr. Dre, Jay Z and Diddy in 2017.

Being just 30 years old at the time, it was particularly impressive for him to be recognized as being among the top five richest rappers — especially since he’s young enough to be the son of the others included on the list!

He owns some impressive real estate: Drake mainly resides in “The Embassy,” his lavish $100 million mansion situated in Toronto, Ontario. This opulent estate spans an impressive 35,000 square feet and was custom-built in 2017.

The grandeur of this residence can be witnessed in the music video for his hit track “Toosie Slide.” In the spring of 2023, he listed his 24,260-square-foot home in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles for $88 million.

It’s also rumoured that he recently purchased a six-bedroom mansion in London, England, for £9.15 million, which is equivalent to roughly $11.6 million U.S. dollars!

In 2019, Drake bought his own Boeing 767 jet and began customizing it. Known as “Air Drake,” the impressive airplane can seat 30 people, has been compared to a five-star luxury hotel, and is estimated to have cost as much as $242 million.

The inside of Air Drake includes a minimum of three private suites, two lounges, a sophisticated workspace, a room for entertainment, and a restroom. Within these areas, there are a large bed, floors covered in carpet, modern televisions, luxurious velvet sofas, high-end furnishings, and a shower.

Drake’s music has been praised for its emotional depth and vulnerability, with many fans relating to his lyrics about love, heartbreak, and success. He has also been applauded for his versatility as an artist, seamlessly blending elements of hip hop, R&B, and pop in his music.
